I'm all about that base....(refrains from singing Meghan Trainer.....).
Perfecting your base makes a huge difference to your makeup end result, and I love making sure I'm confident with how my skin looks. Over the years I've collected a few holy-grail base products, ones I know I'll continue to repurchase and have become staples in my day-to-day makeup routine.
Primer isn't something I use every day, simply because I don't need it and sometimes I feel it can clog up my pores. But a product I do use, which isn't marketed as a primer but I find helps to prime my skin and prolong the wear of my foundation, is the Elemis Pro-Illuminating Flash Balm. It's a relatively recent find for me, but it's quickly become a firm favourite for it's brightening, skin perfecting qualities. I'll be posting a full review soon.
Foundation is definitely the product I'd spend the most on. I always used to have issues finding a good foundation for my skin, they either were too cakey, didn't last long on my skin or I couldn't find a colour that matched me. This was when I was looking at the cheaper, drugstore foundations; don't get me wrong, there are some great highstreet foundations out there, Bourjoirs Healthy Mix is one I reach for often, but I don't think you can beat high end when it comes to foundation.
My absolute favourite is a cult classic, NARS Sheer Glow. It took me quite a while to take the plunge and purchase Sheer Glow, it doesn't come cheap at £31, but I'm so happy I discovered it. It gives me the most perfect base; not heavy, but great coverage whilst still looking natural, glowy but still somehow quite mattifying, and lasts all day. I just love it, and I find the days I am wearing Sheer Glow I have a lot more confidence.
Concealer is something I have a love/hate relationship with. I love that it exists, so I can cover my pesky under eye circles, but I so regularly buy a concealer and end up hating it. I don't own any high-end concealers, but my favourite high-street find is the Fit Me Concealer from Maybelline. I know many bloggers have compared it to NARS Creamy Concealer. Fit Me is definitely creamy, not at all drying or heavy but it covers great coverage for hiding anything you want to on your face. It doesn't have the best lasting power in the world, but it's a steal for £5.99.
Powders seem to be here, there and everywhere now. You go into any beauty shop and are spoilt for choice, with products claiming to mattify, give you perfected skin, set your makeup, the list goes on! It can be quite overwhelming, but choosing the right one can make rather a big difference. I used to choose very high coverage powders, which I just didn't need and could make my skin look dry.
The powder I use most often is actually another high street find, and another product from Maybelline. It's there Matte Maker powder. I find it leaves my skin looking almost airbrushed, it adds a little bit of coverage but doesn't look powdery or heavy, it feels lovely and light in addition to lasting well throughout the day. The best part is it's only £3.99, so if you want to test it out it won't break the bank.
What are your must-have base products?
I'm always on the lookout for
